Gretchen began running in races after her neighbor talked her into doing her first half marathon – the Seattle Rock n Roll – in 2010. She was very nervous about it as she found out that it was 13.1 miles! She’d never run over 3 miles at one time, a couple days a week. But she found a training plan and followed it closely. After finishing the race, she was so proud and excited to do her next one.
That was over 12 years ago and to date she has run 262 half marathons and 34 marathons.
She recently achieved hitting the top level, the Sun, in the group Half Fanatics, from running 52 half marathons in 365 days!
Gretchen loves running all distances of races, especially while being dressed up. Some of her favorite races are at Disney World where she has run Goofy (half & full in 2 days) once and Dopey (5K, 10K, half and full in 4 days) four times.
She’s also a big fan of Ragnar Relay races, having been her team’s captain for 7 years.
Gretchen heard about the Abbott World Marathon Majors from one of her running friends and decided to aim for the stars. Six stars, that is. She has run Boston three times, New York twice and Chicago & Berlin once. She’s very excited to be running London as it will be her 5th star. She’s also entered in the Tokyo marathon in March 2023 (after many postponements from 2020) to earn her 6th star.
Gretchen looks forward to meeting and running with her fellow Runbuk teammates!
